Ignition Poker is the quiet king of American online poker, and I'm thrilled to finally be able to recommend them to you after all these years.
Ignition Poker, which has left many of you perplexed, is the topic at hand.
Ignition Poker — who are they?
Since nobody has heard of Ignition Poker before now, how can it possibly be the industry standard?
What I mean is this:
While the Ignition brand is new, it is really the Bovada poker division with a new identity. Maybe you're familiar with them, or at least one of their many incarnations.
Bodog. Just released Bodog. What a Bodog Way of Life. Bovada. It's Calvin Ayre. Republic of Costa Rica. Flip the Federal Government the bird. Indeed, those dudes. With a name change, they are now known as Ignition Poker.
Strong foundations
In 2004, during the height of the poker boom, the upstart online sports/casino company went public with its poker room under the name Bodog.
In fact, I came across them in the same year that I started playing poker online for the first time.
It was the smart move for any gaming company at the time to cash in on poker's popularity by targeting the hordes of people who would bet their life savings on the World Series of Poker (WSOP). That was a lovely period.
Ignition has always been one of my favourite "underground" bands.
Ignition Poker (formerly Bodog) has long been one of my personal favourites among the several US poker sites available at the time.
Bodog took a different approach, and its players benefited with looser tables, more individualised service, and a more flexible banking system, the likes of which only a pioneer in the field of online gambling would dare to provide.
I call them a cult because it felt like nobody else appreciated Ignition for what they were. The ones of us that did couldn't get enough of the cash tournaments.
The forefathers of Ignition Poker were quietly building the groundwork for what would become one of the most successful online poker companies ever.
What makes them the greatest right now
Yet as a newcomer to the game, none of my rose-colored praise from the past means nothing to you.
An business that can pivot on a dime and snuff out old fires as quickly as players can click "pay out" has little need for the past.
Two years went by during which I was completely speechless.
This media restriction has made it very difficult over the last two years for Ignition Poker and Bovada to provide players with an accurate picture of the US market.
As the poker media was forbidden from mentioning the poker room's existence, the situation was very precarious.
To the best of my knowledge, I was unable to inform you that Zone Poker, the largest and finest poker site catering to US players, was also the sole legitimate mobile client.
That drove us crazy.
And please don't misunderstand me here:
BetOnline filled in well, and I'd still recommend them even if Ignition Poker were unavailable.
The embargo has ended, unfortunately. My pursed lips (and uncovered fingers) have been opened. The king has returned to take his place on the throne. As far as online poker sites go, Ignition Poker is light years ahead of King Richard.
Reasons for my elation
Why do I feel so privileged to be able to discuss Ignition Poker once more?
If they fail players today, my own 14-year relationship with them means nothing.
When it comes to online poker sites that accept US players, Ignition Poker is head and shoulders above the rest.
Here is only a little taste of their unparalleled credentials:
Although PokerStars and 888 Poker are the two biggest networks in the world, Ignition Poker dominates the United States.
As far as I know, they're the only US-based platform that allows for mobile gaming. They're one of the few providers offering this crucial functionality.
Only one American poker site, Ignition, offers the fast-fold variant. For many years, it has been my go-to poker variation of choice.
Ignition has an unrivalled reputation for payouts. Withdrawals to US players' checking accounts at Ignition Poker are processed in roughly a week, and this has been the case for over a decade. Because to Bitcoin, that wait time has been cut to under 4 hours.
To this day, games are still on the easier side. They always have been, but that fact is now more vital than ever. At Ignition Poker, you may anticipate flop percentages that are 5-10% higher than the average.
Such considerations are quite congruent with the priorities of the modern American player.
Tired with low stakes games, uncertain payouts, and empty tables? Unless you're located in the states of Delaware, Maryland, Nevada, New York, or New Jersey, Ignition Poker is definitely your best bet. Ignition does not let players from specific states and strictly enforces this ban, going so far as to attempt to identify whether you are using a virtual private network (VPN) to circumvent the ban.
